Sightseeing Tour

Your Tangier Day trip from Tarifa, Spain will include a nice drive through the Ville Nouvelle so that you can learn about the European Architectures. Tangier was, unlike other parts of Morocco, appointed as an International Zone being administered by 8 powers.

You’ll learn how cosmopolitan Tangier is where Muslims, Christians & Jews have been living in peaceful coexistence.

At the Iberian District, you’ll spot the highest minaret of the Mosque that is shrouded in mystery; however, no worries as we’ll shed light on the Islamic religion and how the architecture is very symbolic in every building.

After that, you’ll drive through the California District with its fancy villas, mansions, palaces including the Royal Palace.

We’ll drive you west from Tangier through a spongy forest of eucalyptus, mimosa, cypress and umbrella pine along a winding, sea-sprayed road. The route, lined by grass as soft as carpet and as luminous as the mountains of the Rif.

You’ll have a short break for taking pictures in the Perdicaris Park. This wealthy person had lived in Tangier from the late 19th to beginning of the 20th century.

Continue on the track to the promontory Cap Spartel, nestling against an ancient cliff. On the northwest point of mainland Africa, looking out onto the Atlantic and the coast of Spain, is the light-house. protected by a cohort of palm trees, the squat yellow tower consists of white corner stones, and a grey metal cupola encasing its light, gave it the appearance of a Roundhead’s helmet.

Near Cap Spartel is Spartel bank, a sunken island that vanished under sea about 12,000 years ago, due to rising ocean levels. The geologists thought it might have been the lost island of Atlantis.

When the Greek sailors approached the Strait of Gibraltar they discovered the vastness of the Atlantic, and thought Tangier was the end of the world.

The views from here are stunning. At this point, the Atlantic Ocean & the Mediterranean both converge.

Drive along the Atlantic Coastline with the possibility to include a camel ride experience before reaching the Neolithic Hercules Caves.

Archaeologists say that the caves show evidence of occupation as far back as the Neolithic age around 10,000 years ago and fossils discovered in another nearby grotto suggest that Neanderthals roamed the region nearly 200,000 years earlier.

Legend has it that Hercules slept in the caves before performing the eleventh of his 12 labors : retrieving the apples from the Garden of the Hesperides in the westernmost corner of the world.

Walking Tour

Much of Tangier’s history is a chronology of foreigners and exiles. Nearly 3,000 years ago the Phoenicians set up trading colonies on the coast and ever since, the local inhabitants have, much to their bemusement seen waves of successive civilizations come and go, imposing their lifestyles upon them. Carthaginians, Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, Arabs, Portuguese, British, Spanish and French have all occupied the region in their time.

Drive back to the Kasbah District, which is built uphill overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar, the Iberian Peninsula & the Medina. You’ll meander around the intricate alleyways leading us to the Kasbah’s main square.

Now, it’s time to explore the vibrant Medina with its bustling cafes and shops. You’ll get inspired by the preserved heritage of the locals including the communal oven or bakery, Mosques and Hammams.

The Souks are divided into sections according to specialty selling spices, antiques, vegetables, olives, leather, chandeliers and much more.

Your Day trip to Morocco from Tarifa, Spain may include upon your request and depending on opening hours a visit the former American Legation, which witnesses the long-established diplomatic relations between Morocco & the United States of America.
